Susan Pillsbury S/T

Susan Pillsbury- S/T 1973 on Sweet Fortune

I promised myself that when I made this blog, this would be my first post. To begin, I wanted to make this blog because I have gotten a great deal of wonderful music for free, via blogspots, and I wanted to post some things that are not already out there. In this blog I'll vary between genres, but as promised it will be more sweet than sour...My hope is to continue to add a new post every week. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I love this Susan Pillsbury album! The song Heaven amazing and initially that song dominated the playing time when I took the album out, but I have since realized that the whole album is worthy of a listen straight through. Heaven is stunningly beautiful, but I think the most heartfelt song is "Its hard to be easy." This song is a little more grounded than Heaven (Pun seriously not intended). "Heaven" seems to be an escape from reality, "Its hard..." is a reckoning with it. Its interesting too, in "Heaven" her voice is very sweet and high, and in "It's hard..." her voice sounds a lot more solemn. A couple of the songs do border on being too smooth for me, but all in all, this album is fantastic. Check it out for yourself. Lastly, here is a message from Susan to you via the Very Good Plus message board:

Dear wonderful listeners,
I wish you could know how gratifying it is to suddenly learn that people have been enjoying the album I recorded under the Sweet Fortune label in the 70's. Only a few weeks ago I learned for the first time that in South Korea it has been bootlegged, and I am trying to arrange to have it re-released legally. I have written a good number of pieces since that first album, but I am now a United Methodist minister in North Carolina, and I wouldn't know how to begin getting this new music out there. But just knowing people have been listening to my music is such a sweet smile from the Lord, I can't tell you.

Sincerely,
Susan Pillsbury-Taylor
